Richard DeBose, AICP
- Master of Urban Planning, Texas A&M University
- Bachelor of Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
My primary interests are in the areas of regional development,
land use modeling, and geographic information
systems. I have about 15 years experience
working for regional planning and development
agencies. This experience includes using
GIS to develop small area demographic and economic
forecasts, to implement new computer models of
urban land development, to study border/international land
development patterns, and to support a variety of
market and development impact studies. I am a
active member of the American Institute of
Certified Planners and, as such, I try to keep
abreast of the long term development
planning issues facing the Houston metro
region and the ways that GIS technologies are being used to
address them.
HCCS students come to us from a variety of
backgrounds - geology, the oil and gas
industry, ocean engineering, business management,
planning, real estate, crime prevention, emergency management,
and more. A substantial part of
the satistisfaction I gain from my role at HCCS is
helping students a) start to think about
the "spatial processes" that lie behind the industry
specific problems they seek to solve and b) gain a
practical grasp of the GIS technology that's available to
them. (For more information about the HCCS program
in geographic information science, take a look at the GIS
homepage.)
