About Me and my Courses
I received my Bachelor of Arts in English and History and my Masters of Arts in English from the University of Houston in 1977 and 1989. I then taught secondary English from 1977-1991. In 1991, I began teaching English at Houston Community College as a full-time instructor. I have served as Chair of the English Composition program at the Southwest College since 1992. I currently serve as chair of English Composition & Literature, Education, Humanities and the Gender/Women's Studies Program. I also serve as an Advisor for illuminations: a journal of student writing and art, produced biennially. From 2000-2005, I  co-sponsored the Southwest Writers Club, and currently I am a co-advisor with Amy Tan for a new student organization: The Gender Studies Club.

My areas of focus include teaching first year composition English 1302 and sophomore literature English 2353: Women in Literature.  One of my favorite authors is Sandra Cisneros, and I had the pleasure of meeting her at several readings from her most recent novel Caramelo.

Your future writing resources are just a click away in English 1302 or English 2353 with Marie Dybala. I look forward to meeting you.
