COURSE DESCRIPTION: A
continuation of ESOL 0341.This course places emphasis on idiomatic speech, everyday
vocabulary development, and listening comprehension.
2.
ESOL 0345 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: This course seeks to prepare students for
college level academic or workforce study by advancing them from high beginning
to high intermediate level in listening comprehension, oral fluency, active
vocabulary, and pronunciation.
3.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
At
the end of this course, you should be able to do the following:
Express
simple emotions in the right context * Describe
yourself and others * Talk about present, past, and future events * Make
comparisons and state preferences * Express opinions * Pay and receive
compliments* Make polite requests, and accept and refuse requests politely *
Request help and give advice to others * Ask for permission, give apologies *
develop effective listening skills * give prepared speeches

5. TEXTBOOKS: Northstar: Focus on

1. Be on time. If you are tardy more than 15 minutes, I will mark you
absent. If you are late, come
into class quietly, without a lot of noise.
2.
Attendance
is very important. If you are absent
more than eight classes during the semester, you may be dropped from all of
your classes.
3.
If
you are absent, please ask a classmate for any missed assignments. There will be no makeup exams without
a documented, compelling reason. If you
turn in your homework late, I will take off up to 10 points from your grade.
4. You have to do your presentation (speech)
on time. If you are not ready, you will
be allowed to do it at a later date, but I will deduct 10 points from your grade.

WITHDRAWL
POLICY:
A student may drop
his/her Gulfton courses for any reason until April 3rd 2007 at 4:00
p.m. A student may also be dropped from
the Gulfton program for excessive absences until that date. After April 3rd, the student will
receive the grade that she/he has earned.
College policy prohibits faculty from assigning a grade of W
(“Withdrew,” or dropped) after the official drop date.
