Today, Thursday 11 September 2008:
English 1302 crn 57070, meeting 5:30pm in room E101; class will not meet, as HCCS has just announced that the college will close at 5pm. Consequently, the handout for the grading rubric for the proposal will not be passed out. Here are the criteria, listed by item (point value possible):
Format: (mechanics, mla, etc): margins (5), spacing (5), first page information (5), header (5), font --12 point Times New Roman (5)
[Each formatting issue is all or nothing -- you should be sure your margins are correct, etc. proofreading (15) [grammar, spelling, general mechanics of the language; this is not an all-or-nothing evaluation]
Content: defined research topic (5), argument for societal nature of problem at hand (10), outline of possible solution (10), clearly stated working thesis for research purposes (10), discussion of potential problems with research (10) [tech, source availability, time management issues, etc.], explanation of anticipated research methods (10), and organization of essay for maximum effect (5).

Remember this assignment is due electronically by the beginning of class time on Tuesday. We will discuss the annotated bibliography assignment on Thursday, and at that time I will clarify the daily syllabus to get back on track.
I will check my email as technology allows this weekend and on Monday. I will NOT be checking my email after 11am on Tuesday the 16th.
