Welcome Welcome to the course!

This section of EDUC 1301 is "web enhanced"; it includes an online learning component, meaning that it is taught both in and out of the classroom. Technology is appearing more and more as a means of course delivery at all levels of instruction, so it is important that you as potential educators have experience with it. Some of the course instruction will be accomplished on line using our Blackboard course delivery system, so you will need a computer that has access to the Internet. If you do not have that access, you can go to one of the open labs in the Southwest College (Alief/Hayes Rd, West Loop or Stafford). All quizzes and exams will be completed via Blackboard as well as some occasional weekly activities. The convenience of this instructional methodology is that you can complete some of your work at your leisure and you are not bound by having rigid class meetings. Be aware, though, that you still have to observe deadlines. Online access is especially helpful when we have our monsoon rains!

Blackboard has an email component and that will be our primary source of contact  for course information and updates. In the event of technical problems with Blackboard, you may use my HCCS email: larry.mers@hccs.edu. Almost all of the documents you receive for the class can be found at the course web site.

A major component of this course includes a semester group project that serves as your final examination.  You will have several activities to complete online. These may be for self-checking purposes only, or they may be activities that are assigned for a grade.

Enjoy the semester.

SPECIAL NOTE:  If you have been convicted of a felony, you may not be able to teach in the State of Texas. Before you can begin your state-required field study, you must successfully pass a background check. Contact your attorney for further information.
