Short Bio
-
Ph.D and M.A. from University of Kentucky in Political Science
-
B.A. from Pan American University in Political Science and History
I have been on the Southwest College faculty since 1993. Before that, I taught at University of Houston, Lexington Community College, and University of Kentucky. Along with my colleague Dr. Larry Gonzalez, I founded the Southwest College Service Learning Program. My research has focused on the politics of Mexico and Central America, particularly Nicaragua where I have conducted extensive field study. In 2006, I went to southern Brazil on a faculty exchange program and lectured at three universities.
Outside of work, I enjoy camping, canoeing, live music, and poetry. I lead a creative writing workshop at a nearby Texas prison unit. My first book, Uncommon Community: One Congregation's Work with Prisoners is now available from Skinner House Press.
