Gavin Schulz, Ph. D.

Instructor of Composition and Literature

A Little About Me

Ph.D. Literature: University of Southern California
M.A. Literature: University of Southern California
A.B. Mathematics: University of Southern California

As one can see from my education, I am from Los Angeles, though I was born in New Orleans, and both sides of my brain work reasonably well (or at least they used to).  Having been born in New Orleans, I am a Saints fan from way back, even when Archie Manning was quarterback and fans wore paper bags over their heads to hide their shame.

After graduating from college, and being rather directionless and apathetic, I took my expensive math degree and . . . bartended (much to my parents' horror).  Then, in 1984, Peter Gabriel came out with his So album, on which he had a brilliant song called "Mercy Street" about the poet Anne Sexton.  I bought her collected poems, fell in love, and decided to return to school and get graduate degrees in literature.      --More to follow . . . perhaps--
