1. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A
continuation of ESOL 0343. This course develops vocabulary skills, both
written and oral. Students learn to
write short simple paragraphs.
2. ESOL 0347 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
ESOL 0347 Intermediate Composition,seeks to
prepare students for college level
academic or workforce study by
accomplishing the following objectives:
Strengthening student
awareness of the basic principles of organization of the single paragraph
composition, focssing especially on the role of the topic sentence, examples,
details, and the conclusion.
Strengthening stuent
awareness of the nature of the writing process, focusing especially on the
areas of effective prewriting, composing, revising, and editing.
Introducing to the
students the basic principles of sentence combination. focusing especially on
the role of subordinating and coordinating conjunctions.

CLASS POLICIES
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR: Please switch off all beepers and cell phones during the lesson. This can be very disruptive to other students. Talking can also be disruptive. Listen carefully and ask relevant questions.
ATTENDANCE: You must come to class. HCCS has a very strict attendance policy . If you are absent for 8 hours you may be dropped from this class. There are NO excused classes. Tell me if you know you are going to be absent.
TARDINESS: You must be on time for class. If the class has started, please sign in and do not interrupt other students. If you are more than 15 minutes late you will be marked absent
MAKEUP TESTS / LATE HOMEWORK: You will know when a test is being given. If you know that you will be absent, please let me know.You may take the test before the day of the test. There will be no make up tests. If you are ill on the day of the test, please call the campus number (713 718 7750) and leave a message for me, but try to be present on test days. If you are unavoidably absent, please see me as soon as you return. If an assignment is late, 10 points will be deducted for each day.
ACADEMIC HONESTY / CHEATING: All students are required to exercise academic honesty in completion of all tests and assignments. Penalties for academic dishonesty (any form of copying, cheating, plagiarism or unauthorized collaboration on an assignment) may include a grade of O or F for the particular assignment, failure in the course, and /or recommendation for probation or dismissal from the college. NOTICE: Students who repeat a course three or times are required to pay an additional $75 tuition fee.
TUTORING: is available for students who need academic help. It is on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1.30-2.30pm and on Fridays form 9-11am. This is free of charge. GISO (Gulfton Student International Organization) is also available for students.
CLASS POLICIES
WITHDRAWALS: The last day for students to withdraw from a class for a grade of “W” is November 8.
