Mr. Dilks has traveled extensively and studied art and advertising in England, France, Switzerland and Italy.
Mr. Dilks has been a member of many trade organizations, such as: Advertising Federation of Houston, The Art Directors Club of Houston, Texas Public Relations Association and the International Association of Business Communicators.
BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:
Mr. Dilks has been an adjunct instructor with Houston Community College since 1999. Prior to that he taught for 5 years at the Art Institute of Houston, as an adjunct evening instructor.
Mr. Dilks has worked in the advertising and design business for more than 3 decades, beginning in television and newspaper. He has worked for many major corporations, among them ExxonUSA; Conoco Corporation; United States Surgical Corporation; Duke Energy; Conté Nast Publishing/NYC and Coca-Cola/FL and various advertising agencies and design studios across the country, including Vance-Mathews/Houston; TaylorSmith/Houston; McCann-Erickson/Houston; Ogilvy & Mather/Dallas; and Westport Studios/Ct. A few of the groups he has created marketing and advertising pieces for are: The University of St. Thomas; Empire Media/NYC; Aramark/HISD Food Services Group; Anadarko Petroleum; Igloo Corporation and The Society for the Performing Arts. For many years, Mr. Dilks has done volunteer work throughout Houston, including creating marketing and promotional materials for the Kids Unlimited Foundation for more than 6 years.
Mr. Dilks has worked as a news and sports photographer for newspapers in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. He’s redesigned, and created the design for, nationally distributed magazines and created Corporate Identity programs and Graphic Standards for major corporations. He has worked in print, broadcast and outdoor advertising. Mr. Dilks created many of the billboards and logos that you’ve seen throughout Houston.
Currently, Mr. Dilks works as a Graphic Designer/Copywriter for On Center Software, located in The Woodlands, Texas. On Center Software creates software programs for use in the Construction industry, for creating takeoffs, estimating and project management. He has created their corporate identity, Graphic Standards, trade identity, trade magazine ads and sales collateral. Mr. Dilks also writes for all their advertising uses.
In his spare time, Mr. Dilks has several hobbies including painting, photography and short story writing. His son is beginning his studies for IT Management at the University of Texas/Arlington and his daughter is graduating the University of Houston in Creative Writing and Psychology.
