More About Me
I have a B.A. in English from the University of Houston. Before graduating from UH I also went to Strasbourg, France, for a year, where I earned a Diplome d'Etudes Francaises. My professional degree is an M.L.I.S from the University of Texas in Austin. I'm also "ABD" in Higher Education Leadership.
Prior to working at HCC, I helped open the Alief/David Henington Regional Branch of Houston Public Library. I was also Assistant Director for the Brazoria County Library System. Since coming to Stafford and Southwest College I have gotten more and more interested in library instruction--that is, in helping students learn to find and use the right information to meet their particular needs. In July 2006 I participated in the ACRL's Institute for Information Literacy ("Immersion"), an intensive 5-day experience focused on transforming library instruction activities into cohesive and dynamic programs.
I am an avid participant in reading discussions. For upcoming and ongoing discussions I'm currently reading Bailyn's Ideological Origins of the American Revolution; Confucius's Analects; Soren Kierkegaard's Either/Or; and Goethe's Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship. I also serve on the Board of the Houston Great Books Council.
