THINGS TO DO TO SUCCEED

Bring daily supplies to class:
1. your textbook and lab book (Yes we will be using both in class daily!)
2. a simple 8x11 two hole hard back binder with notebook paper in it
3. printed materials from this website inserted in the binder
4. a simple calculator.
5. pen and #2 pencil
6. highlighter
6. five 100 count scantrons for exams.

You may bring laptop computers to class and have your notes on them if you like. However, do not use the computers for other work, surfing or email during class or you will loose that privilege.

Cell phones are allowed in class, but you are responsible to leave class if you get a call or if you need to call someone.You will be asked to leave class if your talking or text messaging distracts others, including myself.

Study Before and After class:
1.There are objectives for each class that are posted at my website on the learning web.  I've tried to get students to answer them before coming to class or use them as note-starters during class or as review after class. Only students who want good grades seem to do this, as there is not grades given directly on this effort.  So you may use these as you like, however, know that quiz and exam questions will be coming from these objectives.

2.Biology is a "foreign language" with many terms to learn. At the beginning of each class session I will giving a vocabulary test over highlighted new terms found in the material you'll be reading. Also at the end of each session, there may be a quick quiz over what has been discussed; so come on time, stay the full session and pay attention!

3. In addition to in-class laboratory assignments from your lab book, you will be assigned "virtual" investigations to do online at the Campbell website. These must be downloaded and brought to class in hard copy for grading and discussion on the day they are due.

Bring yourself:
Last but not least be sure to be in class. Do not be late. Do not leave early. If you miss a quiz because you're not there, you get a zero. If you miss an exam because you're absent you may get a makeup test, at my discretion, and in a different form. You've paid money for this course, you should invest all the time possible to succeed in it.
